Sony Ericsson unveils its first ever 8.1 megapixel camera phone

Sony Ericsson has done it again. The company announced the Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot, a slider phone equipped with an impressive 8.1-megapixel camera. As far as we know, the Samsung SCH-B600 is the only mobile to have a higher lens at 10 megapixels. The new model provides easy photo-taking in a phone that derives its looks from a digital camera and offers the picture quality to match and sports the latest must-have camera technology including Xenon flash, auto focus, face detection, smart contrast, image stabilizer and red-eye reduction.
According to Sven Totté, Head of Imaging Marketing at Sony Ericsson, the C905 “is a viable alternative to a digital camera” and has been developed to make us all better photographers.
The auto rotating screen offers a 2.4-inch scratch-resistant QVGA display which can show up to 262k colors.

The C905 Cyber-shot also follows in the footsteps of the Nokia N78 by adding integrated GPS and the ability to geotag any of photos that you take with the phone. The handset will also be able to provide you with voice-guided directions for more than 50 countries, since it comes preloaded with a three-month complimentary subscription to Wayfinder Navigator. One other plus is the ability to transfer photos wirelessly to TV using via Wi-Fi (using DLNA).

Other notable features on the C905 include Microsoft Exchange Activesync support, video calling with its secondary camera, and full music support - including A2DP Bluetooth stereo, an FM radio, and the ability to play MP3 and AAC music files. Also, the phone ships with a 2GB M2 memory card to fit into its expansion slot.

The Sony Ericsson C905 measures up at 104mm x 49mm x 18mm in size and weighs 136 g. Sony Ericsson expects the C905 to be capable of 9 hours of GSM talk time or 4 hours of UMTS 3G talk time, and up to 15 days of standby time.
The C905 Cyber-shotâ„¢ will be available in three colours (Night Black, Ice Silver and Copper Gold) and is expected to reach retail shelves in Q4 of this year.
