Sharp Aquos 923SH, the world’s slimmest waterproof mobile phone, brings a 5.2M camera

SoftBank Mobile Corp., the third largest Japanese mobile operator, has launched a new mobile TV phone on the Japanese market: Sharp Aquos 923SH. Claimed to be the world’s thinnest waterproof mobile phone, the 923SH was first unveiled in June and will be available under the name of SoftBank 923SH, starting July 5, only for the subscribers of SoftBank.

Sharp Aquos 923SH is a clamshell which boasts with a large 3.3 inch WVGA swiveling display screen that uses Sharp’s unique AQUOS LCD panel, a technology that promises rich and vibrant colors, supporting no less than 16.7 million colors and a 480 x 845 pixel resolution. This high-end cellphone is also able to provide the best possible mobile TV experience, packing a 1Seg receiver and is also capable of video recording, featuring 29 millimeters wide angle lens to offer excellent video recording at 15 frames per second (fps) and 30 fps.

The 5.2 megapixel camera with 6-way motion sensor incorporated in the 923SH rivals any digital camera available in the market in terms of taking quality shots, featuring auto focus, flash, face detection and wide-angle capabilities.

Other remarkable features provided by the new Sharp 923SH are GPS navigation function, Bluetooth connectivity, music and video players, 100MB of expandable memory (up to 4GB), global roaming service and a map-key for direct web access to Wikipedia and Yahoo! Japan Maps. The handset also supports link with “Yahoo! Japan for AQUOS” Internet service for TVs and users can flip out their screens for a horizontal read while using the handsets as a remote controller.

The Softbank 923SH weighs 135 grams and, when closed, it measures 113 x 50 x 18.6 millimeters. Its battery promises up to about 4 hours of talk-time or up to 350 hours of stand-by time.

The 923SH will be available only for Japanese market for the time being and is offered in many colors including black, navy, wine red, clear white, blue and silk pink. Its price is unknown for the moment, but it surely won’t be cheap!
