SCH-W510, an eco-friendly HSDPA cell phone
Samsung announced the release of SCH-W510, an eco-friendly HSDPA cell phone which also has a proper nickname: Bio Cover Phone. The new launched device is the company?s first handset made of bio-plastic material, a natural material extracted from corns and has been bestowed the “green label” from the Korea Eco-Products Institute recently. The manufacturing process is an environmentally friendly one and does not use brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). In addition, its body does not contain substances that are harmful to the environment, such as Mercury, Lead or Cadmium, which is why it got the ?green label? in the first place.
The new SCH-W510 also has anti-bacterial surface coatings that help lessen the harmful effects of previous handset materials to the human body and nature, however small or insignificant they may seem to be.
Regarding its specifications, Samsung SCH-W510 cell phone features an integrated 3 megapixel camera module, Bluetooth connectivity, media player, and DMB (Digital Media Broadcast) receiver, along with other features that you would expect to find in any regular sized, normal handheld phone.
Samsung says that they only use components that meet the standards of the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) for its new mobile phones, which is something that all mobile phone manufacturers would do good to start implementing on their own products too. Corn starch might not be the most fashionable thing to use for a cellphone, but at least it helps the environment. Therefore, there is hope that Nokia, LG, Motorola, RIM, Palm, Apple and other big names in the mobile industry will start moving toward this direction as soon as possible.
In conclusion, the SCH-W510 is quite sensitive to the environment and seems like it lives up to both its name of Eco Phone and nickname of Bio Cover Phone.
Unfortunately, this new released phone is available only on the Korean market for the moment?
